Author: Truman Capote
Breakfast at Tiffany’s succeeds to turn one movie star and one jewellery brand into a legend. Even if you haven’t read the book or watched the movie, I am absolutely certain that the name does ring a bell with the image of Audrey Hepburn in a classical little black dress, pearls and black glasses. There is just one word for that, and the word is style.
I didn’t have any particular expectations about the novella. I started reading it almost like a joke, but I was instantly consumed by the mystery, called Holly Golightly and what happens next. Undoubtedly, Holly is one of the most complex, deep and controversial characters I have ever met. On the surface this is a simple story about the girl who wants to climb on the social ladder, but there are more things going on underneath. Holly is romantic, pragmatic, naïve, artistic, secluded, sincere and enigmatic. She can create an air of beauty and mystery without even notices it and that atmosphere wraps the whole story. That is the reason I liked the book so much.
I am among those who like Holly, with all her imperfections and life choices, which differ with my points of view. But she is like anyone else, searching for happiness, somewhere in an unknown place, carrying the air of Tiffany’s. Meanwhile she was floating through life with glamour in her unique way.
If you haven’t read the book, don’t make the mistake to watch the movie first, because the plotline differs seriously at some points with the novella and then you may have different expectations. But after that, watch the film, because Audrey Hepburn makes the most memorable role as Holly Golightly, and the movie is considered as one of the most significant in the Hollywood history.
I hope you will be enchanted by Breakfast at Tiffany’s like me.
